Woodruff in Randolf??

After passing by this historic landmark many times over the past 25 years, we finally stopped to see what it was all about. Several times each year, as we drive through Randolph, Utah on our way to Jackson Hole, Wyoming we see this small, two room cabin. We want to stop, we know we should, we have the desire...we're just always in a hurry to get "on our vacation" in Jackson Hole...or home "to our work" in Salt Lake City. The last time through we decided that we had no excuse and we needed to visit this pioneer home where one of our great latter-day prophets had lived.

In the Spring of 1871, Wilford Woodruff came to Randolph to establish a home for one of his wives, Sarah Brown Woodruff and his son Wilford Woodruff, Jr. In April 1871 he moved onto twenty acres where they began to plow and plant their crops.
This town was already named Randolph when he moved up here. When another town was established, 10 miles away, they named it Woodruff...after him!! His love for fishing and hunting were engaged in often on this beautiful spot of land
After our visit to Randolph to see the Woodruff pioneer cabin Tom and I came home and decided to climb Ensign Peak. Wilford Woodruff entered the Salt Lake Valley on July 24th, 1847
with the first wagon train of Saints. Two days later Brigham Young and a party of Saints climbed this peak. Wilford Woodruff was the first to ascend it and he suggested they set up an ENSIGN...it was then named ENSIGN PEAK
If you want a breath-taking view
of the Salt Lake Valley...Tom and I suggest that you take a short hour and make the climb! It is WELL worth the minor effort and you will be rewarded with great views!
It's worth it - you will be inspired by
our Pioneer Heritage once again!
